a fragrance ingredient, skin condition agent. Ideally this is a vegetable glycerin mixed with grain alcohol, both of which are natural, but
usually is a synthetic petrochemical mix used as a humectant. Next to water it is the most common moisture-carrying vehicle used in cosmetics.

confused with ethylene glycol. Ethylene glycol is a more common ingredient used in antifreeze which in fact is very toxic. Propylene glycol can be used as an anti-freeze but this propylene glycol based anti-freeze is recommended
because it is safer than ethylene glycol should pets ingest it. Propylene glycol in its synthetic form is made of petrochemicals which have many other health concerns as well as contamination issues.
